Are all essential oils organic?

No, not all essential oils are certified organic. Only farmed essential oils can be certified organic by regulatory agencies. Wild-crafted oil, sourced from plants “in the wild” are not eligible for certification. Organic certification does not guarantee a purer oil, however. Only in-depth testing by an accredited laboratory like Tilley can ascertain the product’s true quality.

Are there non-GMO essential oils?

Yes! Tilley provides non-GMO-certified essential oils. Some essential oil ingredients are non-GMO because no genetically modified variations of the source material exist.

Are essential oils halal?

Yes, most essential oils can be halal, depending on how specific products are distilled and formulated. Halal essential oils must not contain alcohol. Your Tilley representative will provide details about each product’s certification process.

How are essential oils extracted?

The most common type of oil extraction is steam distillation. However, different types of essential oils are extracted more efficiently by other distillation methods, such as:

  • Hydro-Distillation – This method involves boiling the plant. The vapor is then condensed and decanted.
  • Cold Press – Cold pressing, also known as expression, is the best distillation method for citrus fruit.
  • CO2 Extraction and Solvent Extraction – These methods are also used in different applications.
